Darius Walker is (possibly) dy-no-mite

The Texans have signed Notre Dame RB Darius Walker. Now, I may have an active dislike for Notre Dame football (not to be confused with my all-consuming hatred for anything even tangentially related to Ohio State), but I like this move. Walker joins the Texans’ logjam at RB (Ahman Green, Samkon Gado, Ron Dayne, Wali Lundy, Chris Taylor), so there is no guarantee that he will even make the team. This is still a nice low-risk/high-reward move.

An undrafted junior (d’oh!), Walker rushed for 1267 yards and 7 TDs last season. He also caught 56 balls for 391 and another TD. Granted, most of his big games came against the service academies, but he did put up 128 against an LSU defense that dominated the Irish. (Happy Author’s Note: Michigan held him to 25 yards while serving a hot plate of ass-kicking to the Domers. Suck it.)

I agree that this is a good pickup. This was a guy that had someone whispering in his ear, telling him he was a sure thing, and he made a mistake. Hopefully he comes into camp with a chip on his shoulder and proves that 31 other teams also made a mistake by passing on him. But, if he doesn’t, eh…

I just realized how many ex-packers you guys have, Is Kubiak from Green Bay or something?

Walker was here in Nashville too, apparently we passed. You guys seem to have a healthy lineup of backs this year. We’re kinda bummed that they let Travis Henry go, he’s a hoss. We’re hoping that case of slimfast gets to Lendale before the season starts, and this guy Chris Henry turns in to something special. If not, ugh- not so good in the backfield.

I’m working on some ideas for our wager for Vince Bowl III, any suggestions since the Moet is now out?

Walker could wind up being solid. I mean, 1200 yards in a Charlie Weis offense is noteworthy.

I can’t decide how much expectation to lay on Ahman Green. It wasn’t that long ago that he was a star (aside from that fumble problem), but who knows? Lundy is probably the best bet to turn into a real back.

As for the bet, and judging from your blog, you are a BBQ man. I, too, am an aficionado in the ways of slow-cooked meat. Maybe we could work something out there? Not sure exactly what.

I feel my arteries clogging as we speak. I bet that you, being from the Houston area, may know your way around a grill.

I primarily drink Jager and Guiness as experience has showed that I can last longer on the dark and dark.

Maybe we get a ribs/bottle bet going or something. That could be cool.

I am wondering which Ahman Green you guys have right now, he can be a holy terror when he’s on, but when he’s off he hands the ball off more than the QB. And this Gado fellow is also intruiging. Lundy? Meh.

Walker did have some moments that I noticed last year, but as you noted his worst days were against good teams, and his best versus the service academies. I agree about the Weiss point, it’s tough to get lots of ground yards in his system.

Maybe Ron Dayne could tell Lendale what not to eat? That might help.

I still wonder why you guys let us have Robaire back though, any thoughts?

Actually, I’m from Little Rock, AR. Which means I am more in tune with pulled pork and ribs than brisket.

I am a vodka/english beer person myself. I think we’re close to hammering out this bet.
