There’s a seat for you at the rodeo and I’ve got every slow dance saved

While in Houston over the upcoming weekend, I have three goals.
1. See at least three practices.
2. Eat Mexican food.
3. Eat brisket.

Now, as for number 1, that shouldn’t be a problem, seeing as how I have tickets to three practices. (You hear me talking, Mother Nature?!? If it rains, I will cut you. So help me God, I will cut you.)

Because my knowledge of Houston is limited to the inside of Hobby airport, however, goals 2 and 3 require assistance. I have asked some fellow bloggers for input, but I don’t know what to make of the results. They agreed on the best brisket (Goode Co. BBQ), but were incredibly divergent when it came to Mexican food. Like the ones one person liked, the other person apparently thought were crap.

SO… I want some input. Recommend places that will fill my belly with the best Mexican food in Houston. (Also, feel free to offer brisket advice as well.)

Hit up Lupe Tortilla for some mixed grill fajitas and you won’t be sorry. Easily the best fajitas in Houston.

I know of one location on 45, about 10 miles north of downtown. Might be more.

This is a topic that is bound to get plenty of replies.
Goode Co. BBQ is great, if a bit overpriced. I would also go to Luling City Market if I were in town for a weekend. It is on Richmond just inside the 610 loop.
My favorite restaurant in Houston is the Goode Co. Taqueria on Kirby, just south of 59. It is also a little pricey but beef fajitas, catfish, and pretty much anything there are hard to beat. I haven’t been to Irma’s downtown in a while, but I remember it being a good spot for lunch.

If it’s a chopped brisket sandwich or ribs you’re after…has to be Thelma’s at 1010 Live Oak. It’s a couple of blocks east, southeast, whatever of the George R. Brown Convention Center downtown. It’s a little white with red trim building on the corner.

For Tex-Mex I agree on the above recommendations. If it’s authentic Mexican food you want, try 100% Taquito on 59 between Edloe and Buffalo Speedway. They have tortas, sopes, tacos…whatever your heart desires(within reason).

We’ll be at Saturday morning’s practice if you wanna grab something for lunch afterward.

    Brisket:

Goode Co. is a pretty good recommendation, although I will offer another… Hickory Hollow at 101 Heights Blvd. is awesome. They have all kinds of BBQ and serve ridiculous portions. The BBQ sauce there is something else.

    Mexican:

I would recommend Escalantes. There are several locations, and all offer upscale Mexican food and great margaritas (read: STRONG).

Let us know where you end up going and how you enjoyed it.

mexican: if you want the bomb enchiladas, Molina’s. if you want fajitas, El Tiempo or Lupe Tortilla

Stacy speaks the truth. It’s Ninfa’s and then the rest of the pack.
