Texans facts for your post-lunchtime reading

1. Jerome Mathis is injured. This is not surprising. What is surprising, however, is that no one really seems to know what the problem is. They’ve narrowed it down to his fibula, but, otherwise, are still in the dark. Señor Cristal is going to miss “some time,” but, much like the injury, no one is sure about the details of that, either.

2. In other news that is good only for friends and family of Dexter Wynn, Jacoby Jones is out for the game against Miami as well. And how much does it suck to get hurt by any punter not named Matt Turk?

3. I know this isn’t exactly scientific, but Matt Schaub is currently on pace for 4020 yards, 20 TDs, 12 INTs, 74% completions, and only 24 sacks. FYI–all of those numbers except INTs would be team records. Also FYI–the NFL single-season record for completion percentage is 70.5% (Ken Anderson, 1982).

Ballin’. Unfortunately, Tom Brady is about to raise the bar on that completion % stat to about 85.

Or higher. Jesus, the Pats are good. I can’t even hate on them.

I heard a rumor from this guy that knows this girl that used to date my friend, that saw Ferris pass out at Thirty-One Flavors last night, that Jerome Mathis has a blood clot in his leg.

I think getting tackled and injured by Todd Sauerbrun would be acceptable, too. The dude did ‘roids and had a mean streak before then (the Gramatica brothers would vouch for that).

Eh. The Pats are good, yeah, but they haven’t beaten anybody yet. We’ve played tougher opponents than they have. Everybody talks about Dallas’ weak opponents (3-13) and overlooks that the Pats’ have been just as bad (4-12).

The toughest opponent either of them has faced has been Dallas beating the New York Vagiants.

Neither of them have proven anything, it’s just the Pats have a better history of actually being good, whereas Dallas is led by a homosexual.

Mathis has a stress fracture/hot spot of the lower leg. Hard to say what that ends up meaning but they will make an IR decision soon.

    Kubiak on JJ:

(on WR Jacoby Jones’ status) “I would say exactly what I said yesterday. He’s behind Ahman (Green). He was out here; he did not do much. I would think it’s a tough call with Jacoby. It’s still a game time call, but let’s face it, he has not made the progress that Ahman has made.”

(on if he will use the same players on punt and kick returns) “Yes, and if Jacoby (Jones) is ready to go, then he’ll do both. But if not, then Dexter (Wynn) is the guy. You may see André Davis return kicks too.”

Apologies if this hurt your head any.

Mathis was just put on IR. And so ends the season of Señor Cristal.

Dexter Wynn did fine last week, but Kubiak said he was open to letting Jacoby take kick returns (when he’s ready to go). I suppose it’s a good way to get him on the IR if that’s what you’re going for. I’m pretty sure he said Andre Davis might get a shot too.

…and so ends the career of Señor Cristal in a Texans uniform, I hope.

Fucking Mathis. I even stuck up for the fragile bastard through this preseason.

I like the idea of Andre Davis doing kickoffs instead of Wynn. Dexter did a fine job last week, but I never had that “maybe he breaks one” feeling. I did have the “christ, don’t fumble” feeling.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Green plays this week in honor of his step-dad. Even at 70%, you’ve gotta think he’s better than Dayne. Also, somewhat related, 70% of Dayne is nothing but nougat, sausage, and cream filling.
