40K

At some point on Tuesday, assuming Blogger doesn’t crash, this little corner of blogodelphia will cross the 40,000 hit threshold. Thus proving that there is always a market for jokes about beer-soaked underwear, Peyton Manning’s sex life, and Travis Johnson’s body parts.

I am as baffled as you.

(Thanks.)

UPDATE: Because a couple people have emailed and said that they are unable to register and leave comments here, I’ve switched the comments to allow unregistered commenters.

UPDATE 2: Of course, having posted this, Sitemeter appears broken today. Unless there have really been no readers in the last four hours.

UPDATE 3: Reader #40,000 was from Gonzaga University. Odd.

    More good news!

The NFL has kindly scheduled only one other game during the Texans/Raiders slugfest Sunday afternoon! So I won’t be distracted by other games. Besdies, who wants to watch that lame Patriots/Colts game, anyway?

Wow. The odds of me being able to find a feed for that game online are about 500-1.

These is some thoughts I have, so please tell me what you think.

I think a lot of fans are overreacting. If you look back at the first two game why were we successful? We had at least the threat of the running game, and other teams were not able to just tee off and send multiple blitzes from multiple angles as thy are able to do now.

Since we have had no semblance of a running game in the past 6 weeks, teams are now able to tee of on Schaub. That was not always the case when Carr was in there. Why, you ask? Well, simple, he had Domanick Davis (nee Williams), who was a very serviceable back both rushing and receiving.

Teams are not having to be as disciplined in their gap contain, because there is absolutely no threat to a running game. If we can get any semblance of a rushing attack, then I think that there will be more gap discipline and less blitzes, thus less hits on Schaub.

If I’m your 40,000th hit, could I get a special prize?

Maybe standing balls-ass naked in front 8 Texans (your choice, but one has to be Chad Stanley, because he is still collecting a paycheck for doing shit), and letting them tee off square in the nuts. That way I’ll get everything over with in one shot, thus freeing up some of my Sundays during the busy holiday shopping season.

    Triple,

I completely agree. I think that’s true for a lot of teams. In the first few weeks, teams assume that you can more or less do all facets of the game. After a few weeks of tape, however, weaknesses become apparent.

More importantly, though, you are right on with the gap contain. When we don’t have a RB who can cut back with any frequency, teams can over pursue as much as they want. Never good.
