You should be dancing, yeah!

What can I say? I love my peeps. Read this blog? You are my peeps.

To show my love, I could either give you a special leg hug a la DiehardChris, but I reserve that touch for my wife (and the Texans Twins, natch). Or, I could give you something of incredible rarity and value, all for the super special low price of….free!

That’s right, my peeps, I present you with old Houston Oilers songs. Now, the quality is teh suck, for which I apologize. I acquired all of these 45s in person at Oilers games in the 70s and 80s, and I still have the records. I used a 1960s record player to rip these to mp3, though I am working on borrowing some updated equipment to re-rip, but it might be some time (and I’ll rip them to flac).

I love my readers.

Enjoy!

Oiler Cannonball - Carl Mauck
I’m Sorry Blue - Debbie Reeves
Super Bowl Itch - Kenny Burroughs
Big Bad Earl - Tom Cantrell
and, of course, Houston Oilers #1 - Lee Ofman

Also, since I know that the Chron will be here shortly to steal these and post them there, taking full credit: you suck, and your entire operation sucks. Fuck you.

{Hugs},

bfd

PS: Though the site isn’t fully ready for prime time just yet, several old Houston Astros rips will be posted to our new baseball site Warning Track Power. We’ll have an official announcement a bit later about this new endeavor.

Freakin BFD. I just went back to my toddler days when I was jumping around my parents barroom wearing my Dan Pastorini t-shirt. Believe it or not, I still have it. The ironed on pic is pretty cracked and faded, but damn it if I didn’t have my kid rockin it last year. Thanks for the hit of nostalgia.

Help me out here. How did you riop those to an mp3 file? I’ve got a bunch of old cassettes that I want to convert and haven’t got a clue as to how to do it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    @2: Here’s one method:
    http://www.methodshop.com/2006/10/how-to-transfer-cassette-audio-to-cds.shtml

You can also google “rip music from cassette” to give you additional ideas.

You may also want to edit the music, and here’s some examples of open source tools for that:

SOLIS: My t-shirt was Mike Barber. Also, Matt wanted me to ask if you had any current video of yourself dancing in your underwear on the bed.

Congratulations on the new site! I’ll be visiting regularly, for sure. It really is too bad you can’t give leg hugs over the web… I thought about posting a pick of the hug stance, but I don’t want peoples’ eyes to bleed while they read my site.

By the way - Warning Track Power is a great name… very cool!

I don’t know where to begin: breakdown of offensive schemes; open letters to Mittens, Chron, etc.; Life-coaching; exposure to new gods; made up conversations; etc, etc, etc. My cup was already running over….and now this??? *fighting back tears*

    Best. Site. Evar!!!!11!!1

It was the firing of A.O. “Bum” Phillips, that to this day and now my lifelong hatred, for that bumbling, ugly hairpieced, oil-filled sack of whale blubber, blight to mankind and his psycho-fuck butt buddy Ladd Herzog, that makes those memories so sweet! (hatred/sweet kind of psycho but, I’m not Ladds or Buds fuck buddy)
Met Bum and his fist wife in 85 on Mother’s Day at a Missouri City restaurant I ran and that was a thrill.
Thanks BFD, those songs brought back some fond memories!
Question? Where were any of you on that day in Oiler history when the Luv Ya Blue era was born, for the game against Miami, on Monday Nite Football in 1978?

@mgamaaguche: My pleasure, and thanks for stopping by!

@DiehardChris: Gotta give props to Matt for the name. Fake conversations, Lyndon Veins Johnson, and witty web-site names? Who knew?!
    -
@Buck: I’m getting all verklempt. I’m going to need a moment.
    -
@Eric: Stacy and I talked about that game not long ago. I was at the game, and I still remember it. Here’s a mini box score:
    http://nflhistory.net/linescores/pdf/1978.pdf
You could just see Earl wearing the poor Dolphins out by the 4th when he punched in the 12-yarder.
    -
But it was that 81-yard run I remember so clearly. Our seats had a great view of the field from the opposite way he was running, and you could literally watch the sea part for him. Somebody (?) had a chance to nab Earl in the backfield, and when he missed, I remember thinking “touchdown.” The only thing that needed to happen at that point was the time elapsing because it just unfolded so beautifully, so perfectly.
    -
And, thanks to the beauty that’s youtube, here’s the run (it’s the first highlight):

The hit (steamroller) of Donnie Shell gave me a viagra moment! I’m trying to find out who that was in the Miami game with the first miss.

I was getting prepped for a hernia operation the next day. Told the nurses to wait till half time before they shaved me from navel to kneecap (back in those days, I think they still used leeches). With 5 ugly nurses gathered around to watch the game with me (not my manhood *sigh*), we cheered! And I had tickets for that game! (And I blame Butt Adams for my injury)

That game was a magical moment for Houston!

Thanks bfd for putting these songs up. Though it makes me want a cry a little, and there is no crying in football.

Loved the Earl Campbell tribute on YouTube. Does anybody know who the LA Ram was that Earl speared in the chest? That’s my favorite. I could watch it over and over.

As for the Fat Fuck, I have had the unfortunate honor of being in his company on many occasions. Do you know what the worst part about him was? Not the cheap rug that was never on straight, or the fact that he was a walking, talking rectum (sorry Kaz), it was that he SMELLED…

You are a multi-fucking-millionaire, an NFL owner, and you can’t BATHE?

    Fat Fuck…

I may love the Texans but I’m not over the Oilers leaving. I don’t know if I ever will be. If I ever saw him again I’d probably wind up in jail.

@mga: That would be Isaiah Robertson, who was a helluva linebacker…before the hit:

After the hit, his career suffered, something that tore at Earl:

Earl was about the toughest football player I ever saw. but he’s a sensitive guy, as well. Add that he went to UT? Yeah, he’s my fave.
