Kickoff

Breaking News!: Brett Favre is still an insufferable, prima donna prick.

Breaking News2!: Petey is back.  And, somewhere, Matt weeps a little.  Then, he adds another pin to the voodoo doll.

If only they would’ve been legal: This is exactly how my letter to Penthouse starts, right after “I never thought it would happen to me.”

Sometimes, I just can’t say it any better: DiehardChris beats me and the rest of the BE-SFs to the punch.  Beautifully.

Preseason TV: Unless I’m a total dumbass, and that’s possible, it looks like I won’t be able to catch the Texans/Broncos matchup on the tee-vee in Austin.  Can somebody please tell me differently?

Everybody love everybody.

BFD - Yes, the Texans game will be televised on KNVA (aka “The CW”) in Austin. I don’t know what your cable provider is, but on Time Warner, it’s channel 12. They also are carrying the game on 8/16. KEYE will of course have the Cowboys/Texans game, and the Texans/Bucs game is to this point still undetermined.

NFLN is carrying 54 preseason games, so there is a good chance Texans/Bucs is available there if nowhere else.

    Wait…do you guys get NFLN?

@DiehardChris: It didn’t show at the listings I was looking at last night. My wife thought I had Tourette’s for a while there. OK, thanks!

@Matt: Not until I get DirecTV, but I don’t know if I can afford it this year :-(

@Matt: I don’t, must of Austinites don’t… and yes, I’ve seen on the Texans MBs somewhere that the Texans/Broncos game will be on NFLN like at 9 or 10 PM SUNDAY night, so you’re dead on about that.

@bigfatdrunk: Yeah, for whatever reason - they haven’t updated their website to show the game either. On my TW guide, it does in fact now say “NFL Preseason Football.” Also, just to ease my mind about it - I emailed someone at KNVA in programming and they assured me via email that they are in fact showing this game and the next one. Of course, I’ll be out of town for both. Sigh.

@bigfatdrunk: Dude, DirecTV is soooooo worth it. I’ll cut back on food and hookers before I cut back on Sunday Ticket.

    @Vega: Hookers *and* food? Hmmmm…..

What’s the best way to get a good deal for DirecTV?

@all: If there is a tax maven in the house, can you please drop me a line? It’s my name @atexansblog.com.

If my apartment faced the right way, or if they would let me put a dish on the roof - I would have had DirecTV a looong time ago.

I dunno how ESPN managed it, but their AFC South blog is actually pretty good. I like today’s short piece on the strengths and less-strengths of the receivers.

Also - did you get enough interest in forming a league, Matt?

AT&T U-verse is another option in Austin for getting NFLN. My neighborhood just recently became eligible, and I plan on switching sometime soon.

@DisplacedTexan: Yeah, I think we’ll have enough. I’ll post an update later on.

@Chapman: I’ve looked into u-verse, but friends that have it haven’t been overly satisfied. PLUS, I don’t actually have a land-line coming into my house anymore (long story), so I don’t know what I’d have to pay as far as installation.

If it’s not too late, I’ll join in the fantasy league.

So I guess Time Warner and NFL-N still can’t play in the same sandbox? I guess that’s been one good thing about Comcast taking over the Houston market. NFLN-HD.

Anyone taking bets as to whether they will actually shoot the Preseason games in HD??
