Dear meth-laden BE-SF fans*: A love note from bfd
Aug 19, 2008 Broken Record, Bud Adams is evil, Logo by Chris, Suck it bitchez, What the fuck?
When Earl chose Houston to call his home, he knew no one man could do it alone.
That, if you don’t know, is a lyric from “Big Bad Earl” by Tom Cantrell. But if you are an average BE-SF fan or a complete dumbass like August West, aka cumsucker, you wouldn’t know that, would you? And why would you not know that?
Because Earl Campbell never played a game in that back-assed state. That’s why. How is this concept even remotely confusing?
Sure, we can blame the makers of the poll for this error the same way we can blame your 6th grade English teacher because you still think it’s spelled “kat,” but that misses the point, doesn’t it? You morons simply don’t understand that the Oilers aren’t your team. It never was, and it never will be.
And contrary to Tom’s argument, there is plenty of justification to be pissed. Bud Adams did his best to alienate the city of Houston at every opportunity. That fucker’s only interest is self-interest, and he hated that Bum Phillips and Earl Campbell and the waiter at Los Tios were far more popular than he was. For that prick, the goal was never to win, but to make as many shiny dimes as possible. As far as I’m concerned, Bud Adams is a perfect fit for you people: you can have him, but you cannot have the Oilers.
After all, how many of you actually cheered for the team? How many of you invested every NFL Sunday rooting for them? And how many of you actually *WATCHED EARL CAMPBELL PLAY?* None? Or is it less?
I will end with, fuck you to all who voted for somebody other than Steve McNair or Eddie George. To those who did vote for those guys? Thank you for actually paying attention.
Again, I say to anybody who rooted for the Oilers while they were in Houston and followed that “loyalty” to TN: you are a fucking idiot of epic, titanic proportions.
Yours in Durga,
bfd
* Excludes Tman and NTT, both of whom I actually like and enjoy reading what they have to say, even if I disagree.

In reference to Tom’s comment: You mention precedent in the context of the Browns/Ravens thing, but honestly, Bud’s actions were unprecedented. I cannot think of another storied program in any sport that moved, took its name and history with it, then a year later completely shitcanned the name. I mean, MAYBE you can count the Washington Senators, but even teams like the Lakers and Jazz who moved somewhere that made their nickname geographically inconsistent kept the name. In my mind, as soon as Bud changed from Oilers to Titans, the Oilers franchise ceased to exist. Thus, the Titans were no more a continuation of the Oilers than the Ravens were of the Browns.

Matt- There are so many shitty stories of rich assholes who fuck over entire towns because of their own egos throughout every industry- sports, entertainment, manufacturing, - Buds actions are hardly unprecedented even in sports.
Look at Charles Comiskey
And that’s nothing. Check out the movie “Mine Your Own Business”
and you’ll find out just how much of an asshole someone can be.
And by the way, most Titans fans aren’t real thrilled about Bud either.

@Tman: Well, true enough. Comiskey certainly personifies the evil owner. But from Max Blanck to JP Getty to Andrew Freedman, history is littered with scumbag owners.

The difference is, only one broke *my* heart. The rest of them have been dust a very long time (not that those living are exceptions, as the Marianas situation proves).

Well, he moved there for a reason, and it’s hard to feel any pity.

But, if I didn’t say it strongly enough: I truly respect, from the bottom of my bitter heart, your posts. And NTT’s.

Hey, I let most stuff go. But, it’s Bud’s fucking franchise, and the NFL recognizes it as the same damn team, so everybody else should too. If you want to live in your own little world in denial, that’s fine with me, so long as you recognize you’re in your own little world in denial.
.
There are two types of sports owners: (1) the ones that are fucking assholes when they’re not making as much money as they think they should (or, Dahok forfend, actually losing money, though that’s normally only the case if they were dumb enough to buy an NHL team in a city that shouldn’t have an NHL team and/or grossly incompetent), and (2) the ones that are fucking assholes all the time.
.
The real reason Cleveland got to keep its history was, when Art Modell wanted to move the team, the city/Cuyahoga County/everybody else said “No, sir, I want you to stay around and really fuck me in the ass.” The NFL, knowing a good deal when it saw one, decided to take them up on the offer. Thank the City of Houston/Harris County for not being that fucking stupid, because publicly-financed stadiums are about the biggest fucking waste of money around.

@Tman: @NewsToTom: Again, I have no problem with a team moving. I agree that it’s a business and the owner can do what he (or, in the case of the inherently evil Georgia Frontierre, she) wants to do with them. My problem (and the part I was saying was unprecedented) is with the idea of moving a team that has a few decades of tradition and success and then changing the entire name/logo of the team. Hell, it’s bad enough that he fled to Memphis until Nashville could be prepared rather than waiting it out and making one move, but that’s his choice. I just say that once he chose to not be the Oilers, the Oilers ceased to exist.

There’s at least one thing we agree on.

I like this blog better when it’s actually about the Texans instead of just a bunch of bitching.

wait, so are we saying that Tman and NTT are meth addicts? That makes them vastly more interesting now.

@TheBlowLeprechaun: Quit your bitching. For those of us that grew up watching the Oilers, that is where we developed our love for the game. I started watching football the season prior to drafting Earl and going to those games as I was growing up will always be some of the best memories of my childhood. Out of our love for the Oilers grew our fierce loyalty for our Texans. Although the Oilers were a different franchise, they are the history of professional football in Houston. Do us all a favor and quit your bitching and embrace your heritage. dammit.

@stacy: Although I used to live in Houston, I wasn’t an Oilers fan, didn’t follow football at all at the time, so I really don’t care about that history, whether it’s claimed by the Titans or anyone else.
@Matt: Sure! I think usually there’s only bitching every third post or so, seems a little higher lately.

@TheBlowLeprechaun: True. There’s been a lot of Titans bashing lately. To be fair, though, they deserve it.

Officially, that wasn’t the case here, but it sure felt like it. Reliant was supposed to be footing a major part of the bill. However, my rates went up significantly around the same time that was announced.

@TheBlowLeprechaun: I realize that you weren’t a fan of the Oilers and didn’t follow football at the time but you need to accept the fact that the rest of us were and did. We’re ALL Texans fans NOW and should embrace and support each other. Take what you want and leave the rest. Bitching because the vast majority of us were Oiler fans will only take the focus away from what’s really important…our TEXANS.
