Urge to kill…rising.

In a move that is likely to make stacy’s head explode, BE-SF fans voted Earl Campbell their greatest player ever.

Now, say what you will about how they kept the Oilers name/records/etc. Once you CHANGE NAMES in a NEW STATE, all bets are off as far as holding on to the past. You can keep the Oilers as part of your franchise timeline, but you CANNOT lump Earl in as the greatest Titan ever…BECAUSE HE WAS NEVER A TITAN. To claim otherwise makes you an absolute fuckrag. No one likes a fuckrag, man.

To those who will say “but it was for the greatest Oiler/Titan ever,” I call bullshit.  The team (or, more accurately, it’s sodomite owner) wanted out of Houston.  Fine.  And, honestly, had they remained the Oilers this whole time, even the choosing of Earl Campbell would be justified, if slightly dirty.  But they didn’t.  They shitcanned the city of Houston, then punted the team name a short time later—basically, they started fresh without having to waste years as an expansion team. And, in doing so, they offended 95% of the Oilers fanbase.

Was Earl Campbell the greatest Oiler ever?  Of course.  Was he the greatest player ever owned by Bud Adams?  Of course.  Did he have a single goddamned thing to do with the state of Tennessee or the Titans?  Nope.  And I bet he’s happy about that.

Besides, to hear some of you BE-SF fans tell it, shouldn’t Vince Young have won this vote hands down?

Meh. You’ve got to blame ESPN for this, not Titans fans. It’s ESPN that made it possible - can you really blame Titans fans for taking the best option given to them, even if it shouldn’t have been available to them?

Leprechaun is right. The Titans were called the Oilers when they first moved to Tennessee. ESPN should have asked who is the best “Oiler” of all time, not Titan.

McNair would probably be the best Titans player of all time at this point.

But don’t blame Titans fans for putting Campbell higher than Steve.

I think Chris, Stacy, and Matt are doing a great job of blaming Titan fans. Keep it up guys.

Eddie George loses points for being a OSU grad. And also for having a shitty YPC for his career.

@Matt: I’d have put McNair above George. I think George had the better short stretch of seasons - but overall McNair was better for longer.

Also, fuck all you team-robbers. Earl Campbell IS Texas. Go brew some moonshine and snitch on the state of Alabama.

If you are a Houstonian and/or a former Oilers fan and you cheer for the Titans, you have no soul. If you really believe that Earl Campbell was a Titan, or even a Tennessee Oiler, may God have mercy on said soul

When I say my prayers, one of the signs I ask for is to be given an one hour notice, to grab my kids and grandkids, before the Almighty smites these sodomites and burns a hole where this state inhabits! The hour would be used to cross the TN. line, set up a lawn chair, and witness this cesspool being flushed to the bowels of hell!

@Matt: Yes, easily. Eddie was a great back, no doubt, but Steve was near and dear to Titans fans. We are STILL mad at the way Bud handled his departure to the Ravens. The thing that made McNair awesome, which we are hoping Vince starts emulating, was the way that he played hurt all the time and took responsibility for the bad games he had. He would also shy away from taking credit for wins that he made possible. He was just the best type of warrior to root for, the kind of guy who you want your kids to look up to. And in person who was even more friendly and humble than I can put in to words.

He is sorely missed in Tennessee.

I would never say Campbell was a Titan, and there should never be a “best of” pick that doesn’t differentiate between the two teams.

Gotta love how the BE-SF are feeling about their tried and true franchise pick without any claims to the Houston NFL franchise, Mr. Wonderlick6:

Eddie George loses points for being the most boring fucking player in the history of football. Nice 3.6 career YPC, Eddie. You’re just a hair behind Ron Dayne.

Though I must say, his overall health certainly impressed me. If only Ahman Green could take 300 carries per year… That said, McNair should win that one hands down. That guy was a manimal.

With all due respect, get the fuck over it. It’s Bud Adams’ franchise, not yours and not the city of Houston’s. Blame Bud, if you want, and maybe the NFL, if you want, or blame everybody living in Houston who didn’t give Bud everything he wanted when he wanted it.
    .
Fucking Cleveland precedent and the NFL caving in-now every fan feels like they’re entitled to whine and scream about how a team that’s moved isn’t their team. Go send the damn Rockets back to San Diego if you feel anywhere near that strongly about it.

@NewsToTom: You are talking out of your ass. There is a world of difference between the 3 year old San Diego Rockets being sold and the 36 year old Houston Oilers being uprooted by the same owner. Not to mention that in 1971, business of sports franchises was a little different than it was in 1996.
