Kickoff - Dia de los Muertos edition

Back among the living. As noted here and elsewhere, the list of the dearly departed will be read in a solemn service on Texans TV at 3:30 CST today.  In that vein, here’s my predicted roster (based on the roster makeup of the past few seasons):

QB: Matt Schaub, Sage Rosenfels
RB: Ahman Green, Steve Slaton, Vonta Leach, Chris Taylor, Darius Walker1
WR: Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter, Andre Davis, Jacoby Jones, David Anderson
TE: Owen Daniels, Mark Bruener, Joel Dreessen
OL: Eric Winston, Kasey Studdard, Mike Brisiel, Chester Pitts, Duane Brown, Chris Myers, Chris White, Ephraim Salaam, Brandon Frye, Greg Eslinger2

DL: Mario Williams, Travis Johnson, Amobi Okoye, Anthony Weaver, Frank Okam, Earl Cochran, Tim Bulman, Deljuan Robinson, Rosevelt Colvin3, Gabe Long
LB: DeMeco Ryans, Zac Diles, Morlon Greenwood, Xavier Adibi, Kevin Bentley, Chaun Thompson4
CB: Fred Bennett, Jacques Reeves, Antwaun Molden, Jamar Fletcher, Petey Faggins5
S: Will Demps, Glenn Earl, Brandon Harrison6, C.C. Brown

P: Matt Turk
K: Kris Brown
LS: Brian Pittman7

1I think the carrying of three TEs rather than four, plus the inherent brittleness of Ahman Green might save Darius Walker’s job.

2I would not be the least bit surprised if Rashad Butler got Eslinger’s spot.

3Could EASILY wind up being Kalu rather than Colvin, given the latter’s “play” this preseason, but I think they’ll give Rosey a chance in the regular season.

4I’m actually bummed about losing Ben Moffit and Kevis Coley, but I am guessing at least one gets on the PS.  Also…I…I…um…Morlon…well, you know.

5SHIT.

6Dominique Barber to PS.

7Seriously, Bulman and Dreessen can long snap.  Why is Bryan Pittman eating up space?

Why hast thou forsaken me? Speaking of Petey fucking Faggins, I’m beginning to suspect he has made a deal with the devil or something.  After all, how do you explain his inspired (for him) first half?

Funny, I almost posted a comment here at halftime last night asking who the hell kidnapped Petey. Whomever was wearing his jersey last night wasn’t special, but also didn’t suck.

I hope she likes pocket rockets!

The only place where I might disagree, and purely speculation, is keeping Maddox over Bulman or Robinson. But if it’s based on performance, that won’t happen. Maddox has been the worst player I’ve seen all preseason.
    -
If Petey has his confidence back, he could be worth the keep.
    -
I didn’t get to see the game last night, but it looks like Coley blew the place up. I kind of wonder if we don’t PS Adibi, considering how little he played and practiced, and keep Coley on the big squad.
    -
Finally, I would keep Roberson over Fletcher. After watching the latter since he’s been in the league, I don’t believe in him.
    -
I didn’t even know you could count to 53. Well done!
    -
Also, I’ll try to live-blog the cuts, so join me here at 3:30!

@bigfatdrunk: You could be right on Maddox. My theory there was that he has been SO bad that the fact that the other two have some upside is enough to win that battle.
    -
I love Kevis Coley, so PSing Adibi wouldn’t shock me. At the same time, as bad as Greenwood has been, I wonder if they aren’t expecting Adibi to take that gig sooner rather than later. Dunno.
    -
I wanted to put Roberson on there, but that secondary is so young as it is, I figured Kubes would get another veteran on there. I hope I am wrong.

@bigfatdrunk: Finally, Kevis has a twin brother named Trevis, a free agent DB.

@Matt: that would kick ass if you can get it set up.

I read a quote from Kubes where he said he didn’t think Darius Walker would clear waviers. Wish I had the link.

@tyler: I seriously doubt Adibi would either. No fuggin way we’d do that. No PS for him.

@beef: Or they could PUP him since he is “injured.” You may be right, though.

@Matt: I thnk Ferguson makes this team over Glenn Earl as he has been all over the place and I think that Barber makes this team as well mostly due to the fact that he has more potential thank Earl

@James: Totally possible in both cases. Earl was the hardest one to decide on, mainly because I wonder if Kubes will play the loyalty card and keep him since he lost his job due to injury last year?

    Only 2 quarterbacks?

  14. Matt
(click arrow to reply)Reply to this comment

@WillFist4Food: With too many questions at other positions, I figured he’d PS Brink. If I am wrong and he keeps a third QB, I’d say Eslinger or Long gets the axe.

I@Matt: I can see where Earl may be a loyalty type guy but unless Kubes sees him overtaking C.C. I don’t think you can keep him over Ferguson, who has been a playmaker back there and he can play both spots. I also think that unless Butler is really hurt he makes the team over eslinger

You know, I’m gonna give Rosey the benefit of the doubt here. He played pretty damn well last night and looked explosive off the line. Granted, it was against scrubs, but I think he’ll be alright considering this is a position change for him.

@James: Well, I think Earl is a better SS than CC, so maybe that’s enough reason to keep him. I agree that it’s hard to lose Ferguson. Maybe keep one less at another position?

whatever the final 53 is… I just hope we don’t lead the league in putting dudes on IR. Again.

@Matt: I think we can get by with one less linebacker or maybe one less RB but ultimately I hope that we can keep a guy like Glenn Earl who I think can improve and contribute. Oh and Today while playing the Steelers in Week 1 in Madden 09 Jauque Reeves helped seal the win with an INT return for TD against Big Ben (who Collinsworth Slobbered all over in the game in which they had scored one TD, I hate him even when it’s fake)

@James: Yeah, they didn’t do that knob any favors, having him say the things he did. I didn’t used to mind him so much, but he’s wearing on me because of that game.

@beef: I mean I was winning the game 19 to 0 and he threw a pass to a guy who broke a tackle and ran 65 yards for the TD and all I heard was Rothliesberger( or however you spell that name) was a truly underrated QB and he just had it, Amazing!

@James: Well, it’s not fair to blame Double-C for the fact that you can’t fuggin tackle! C’mon…
