Quick thoughts
Sep 7, 2008 2008 Season, BFD's Real Doll
Before the full-fledged crying begins…
1. Duane Brown is not ready. Period. He was a revolving door at LT. As Matt texted me: “Duane Brown’s attempted recovery says it all.”
2. Offensive play-calling sucked.
3. Ahman Green runs old. Steve Slaton did most of his damage in trash time, but he runs hard and with life. I like him more with every game.
4. Between Schaub and our WRs, if we give him time, we are dangerous through the air. See #1.
5. Our defense is literally Mario and DeMeco with a dash of Manchild. Fred was abused all game, our safeties are slow, and WTF has happened to Morlon?
6. Let me take that back: Our safeties flat out suck.
7. Pittsburgh *is* that good.
More thoughts to come later…hopefully beer-fueled.
Addendum: The entire o-line was pretty shitty, but Brown stuck out to me. Chris Myers would run a close second on the shitty scale. Also, Mario just negotiated peace in the Middle East.

Disagree about number one, I thought he played ok to good for the 1st half but when we became one- dimensional he struggled all while facing Dick LeBeau who has only been running the same D since 1930,but other than that I totally agree and add this (8 RICHARD SMITH sucks as a D-Coordinator. He has no imagination and absolutely no answer for anybody if Willie Parker had stayed in the game we would have given up 6 rushing TD’s and over 250 yards per carry.

re: #2– Please take out the word “offensive”. ALL play calling sucked, even on Special Teams. Fucking squid kick.

P.S. These comments are already beer fueled, as it’s 10:30PM in Norway.
-
P.S.S. Matt Schaub has night terrors about facing 3-4 D’s.

Bushmills time. Oh, and Danny Clark was vastly underrated.

On D, I thought Diles did a decent job, mostly. On O, I thought Schaub often let us down even when it wasn’t Brown’s fault (esp. in the 1st half). As far as play calling, I got a bad feeling starting with the 4th and 1 decision on our first drive, and it never went away.

@thatguy: Schaub definitely had a couple of VY moments, no doubt. Also, I think Diles did a good job when he could use his speed to pursue, but he seemed to struggle a little more when the rush was straight at him.

I don’t think I can rationally discuss this game. So I will just say that Mario fed his doubters a giant plate of Shut The Fuck Up.
-
Also, Kyle, I know that Richard Smith seems like a nice guy, but next time he offers advice on playcalling, tell him to get fucked.
-
Finally…Morlon, thanks for making me look like an asshole. Did you not realize I could do that just fine on my own?

On a less suicidal note, Brady is out for the year, and that’s gotta help our playoff chances. If we can get our shit together enough to even think about playoffs that is.

Playcalling and tossing picks didn’t help the cause, but we lost this game at the line of scrimmage. It didn’t matter what we called, because Pittsburgh was punching us in the mouth when we had the ball. Our O-line clearly doesn’t have a handle on how to run the zone quite yet. When they had the ball, they protected Ben so well that Mario only had 4 tackles, a few sacks, and a FF.

“Brady is out for the year”

If I weren’t so angry at Schaub right now, I might suggest that we remind the Pats that Rosenfels is available at the right price.

Slaton looked good, except for when he was gang-raped behind the line of scrimmage. I think he’s going to be good this year.
-
Brown has the athletic ability, but his technique needs a lot of work.
-
If Schaub doesn’t throw those two picks, we only lose 31-17. Lol.
-
Mario, good god he’s awesome. He doesn’t deserve to play on a team this shitty.
-
All that said, it’s a sixteen game season, and maybe these guys were starting to believe the “this is the best Texans team ever” hype. Time to wake up. They can go a long way to fixing the damage by assfucking the Titans next week.
-
It wouldn’t hurt if Richard Smith got canned this week. Can’t Ray Rhodes become D-coord?

So, uhhhhh, week 1 sucked. A lot. It sucks even more to have the Burner on all my fantasy teams…. and still lose.

I still think we’re a better team than Pittsburgh and we’re going 9-7. It’s week 1, a lot usually changes.

@TheBlowLeprechaun: I agree with all of that except “better team than Pittsburgh.” Now that Brady is dead, I think you could make a case that Pittsburgh is the best team in the AFC right now.

@Matt: There’s a good chance we’ll grab a wildcard and possibly face them in the playoffs… that would be interesting.

Pitt was much better than I thought. They have to be the class of the league. With the division all taking a step back yesterday (except BESF), we might still be competitive this year.

I disagree about Brown. He started out good, but Schaub played like crap. As a matter of fact I think a lot of this loss can be directly attributed to Schaub. I have never been in favor of Sage, but I truely believe we would of had a better game with him in this time. I think the defense was on the field more because of Matt, I think the offense was predictable, and holding the ball and getting sacked instead of throwing it away, caused the rush to increase with great success. He was intimidated, and that translated to those he was leading, if that is what you want to call it. He was the greatest disappointment to me.

@Shake: Good for a 13 year old girl.
@Matt: I actually thought about that when I typed in Matt, but I was about to write Slob instead of Schaub, so to be nice I typed in Matt.
By the way, should I be worried about that hurricane removing my truck from the top floor parking at the airport?
