Victory Weekend
Oct 12, 2008 2008 Season, Winner winner chicken dinner
Before the game, Shake and I exchanged a few text messages. After the UT game yesterday, I was just sure the Texans were gonna win. I called it “Victory Weekend.”
And so it is.
First thoughts from the game.
1. Teh Schaub is your starter. Period. Yes, he started out rusty, but he returned.
2. Mario is a man among children.
3. Was today a coming out party for Manchild in 2008? And how about Tim “bfd lost a bet to Chris” Bulman?
4. Andre Johnson + Gibril Eugene Wilson = High highs and low lows (h/t The Gourds).
5. Duane Brown is still a little rough.
Edit: I <3 JJ.
That’s all for now. Leave your thoughts here and drink a beer or 20 in celebration!
Edit #2: FUCK THE COWBOYS!!!
Edit #3: Text from SOLIS:
You want to know the funny thing? My girl called the QB run the play before. She said, “Why didn’t he just run it in? He had the middle wide open.” Hallelujah!
I was watching with my fam, and I said something to the effect that Schaub needed to pull his head out of his ass because there was nobody close to him and he needs to run. Funny how that all worked.

Anybody who says that Sage is still better than Schaub should go compare the last 5 minute performances of last weeks game and this weeks game. Also I want my own avatar and not some guy with a huge mouf.

I was at this game and all I can say is that from my seat Eugene Wilson was down, Andre and Mario were GODS and Schaub played like a man on a mission on the final drive. Also Joey Porter is the most overrated pass rusher EVER! (except for maybe Matt Roth) Also Kris Brown nailing it every time is about the safest bet you can make. Great Job by the Team Offense looked Miles better than weeks 1-2 and Richard Smith is the worst D-Cordinator in the history of football

@James: Sadly, he wasn’t down. It was a good call.

And thanks for correcting me on Wilson’s first name. Oops.

@bigfatdrunk: Well then Kudos to Kubes for not wasting a challenge and it just proves that seeing it on TV is not the same thing as seeing it from the stands all the time.

Holy shit - the Cardinals just ass-raped themselves. They tried to do the time out as the kicker kicks trick - and the Cardinals blocked it - Cardinals win! OHH - but Ken Wisenhunt called a time out… Folk kicks the FG, we’re going to OT.

Victory Weekend won’t be complete without a Cowboys loss.

I just finished the game on DVR (I was driving back from Miami ironically) and I just about had a heart attack. I don’t recall a game where I went so high to so low to so high to so low. I can’t handle this shit much more. Can’t we just blow someone out one week?

Quick question… why don’t they run blitz the fuck out of that wildcat formation?
(click arrow to reply)
October 12th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
@Vega: My guess because of the possibility of being beat deep (like what happened today) because if you commit so many people to the blitz and then don’t get there it puts a whole lot more pressure on your secondary and when your secondary is suspect(i.e.BAD) anyway it just means a greater chance that you give up the big play.

Also I want to give a nice warm welcome to Jacoby Jones: Welcome to Productivity as an NFL player son! Seriously though he did a nice job all day to just find a hole and run and then of course he ran that one all the way home to his momma. Nice Job.

Its funny how people were chanting “We want Sage!” after schauby’s second pick. The ending of this game should shut a lot of people’s mouths. Texas #1 on the polls, We grabbed our first win this season in dramatic fashion and the cow fuckers lost! Bout damn time!

@James: Ok, I didn’t mean an 11 man blitz. Your DBs still have to have discipline (you know… more than they did when we didn’t blitz). But think about it. What do you do with a young QB? You blitz him to make him uncomfortable. I understand being a little hesitant blitzing Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, but lest we forget, Ronnie Fucking Brown is playing QB.

As for the play that did burn us, that took a long time to develop. If we had dudes in the backfield we may have been able to disrupt it.

Mainly just taking my new avatar out for a spin. I like the last 4 mins of this game much better than the last 4 of the last game.

@James: One more thing. How is that risk any different from any other time you blitz (you know… assuming we would blitz normally)? The answer is that when you blitz, you don’t just blindly run everyone back there. You can blitz intelligently.

@Vega: Watching the plays from that formation, it looks like they do a good job “negating” blitzing. Here’s what I mean. The plays are meant to be quick strikes, whether that’s a “QB” draw or Ricky around end. For the TD pass, they were able to buy time by moving the pocket out. Blitz to the wrong spot, and you are pretty screwed, it seems. And when I say blitz, I mean by sending seven or eight. Five or six seems to be a fair balance of pressuring Brown and keeping containment.

And yes, I was pullin’ for your Longhorns on Saturday. What a game. Shame Mizzou couldn’t hold their end of the deal, that was going to be one helluva game in Austin this weekend.

Blitzing a RB isn’t the same thing as blitzing a QB, the run option there for the RB is infinitely better

@bigwood25: Don’t kid yourself: it’s still gonna be a helluva game. Mizzou will adjust, and they’re still dangerous.

The glass is most definitely half full. Another 2 sacks for Mario, record setting days for Schaub and Andre, an 80+ yd drive to win at the gun… yessir, it’s looking up for the Texans.

Keep in mind, you are not supposed to win games in the NFL with a -3 turnover differential. That’s just crazy!

I was so glad the Texans stuck it to the Fins after Miami embarrassed my Chargers last week. I’m glad I drafted Schaub anyway, but his last-second heads-up antics just cemented it. In fact, I told my husband…”They ought to put 4 WRs in and let Schaub run the draw.” — ooooh, spooky.
Was great seeing the Donks, the Cowgirls, and the Patsies lose as well!!
